the person
her planet
Galaxia takes her name from “galaxy,” the Greek galaxias for the Milky Way, which comes from gala, “milk,” the pale band of light the ancients saw across the night sky. It is the largest name any senshi wears. Other guardians answer to a single planet. Galaxia answers to the whole galaxy. Her hunting ground is the wheel of stars and not one world, and she means to gather the seed of every light in it and claim every crystal.
profile
In the age of the Sailor Wars, Chaos poured through the stars and senshi fell by the thousand. At the end of it Galaxia did the one thing no other guardian dared to do. Chaos cannot be killed, so she could not destroy it. Instead she opened her own body and sealed it inside herself, and became the living prison of the evil she could not kill. The wars ended and the galaxy was saved. The greatest senshi of them all walked away carrying a darkness that would never sleep.
The seal held only for so long. Chaos did not try to break out. Over long years it persuaded her instead, telling her that a light as great as hers deserved to rule every other light in creation, and it turned the saviour into a conqueror. What began as sacrifice became hunger. She had shielded the galaxy, and now she reached out to harvest it. Galaxia set out to gather the true star seeds of every world, the sailor crystals in which a senshi’s whole being is held.
Beyond the seven wanderers hang the distant lights that never move. The old astrologers read the brightest of them as the most dangerous of all, bringing great fame and a great fate, greatness paired with catastrophe. A star that bright was said to burn away the lesser fortunes around it. Galaxia’s brilliance consumes the light of other senshi, and her fate is large enough to draw whole worlds into its orbit and leave them dark.
World after world went out under her golden bracelets. She scattered Kinmoku to ash and sent the Starlights fleeing into the dark, and still she was not done. The one prize she sought was the ultimate light, the star seed great enough to finally hold Chaos. It was the Light of Hope, which she had lost somewhere in her own fall. She did not know that she was searching for the part of herself she had cast away. Under the armour, the conqueror of the galaxy was a woman hunting for her own lost goodness.
That goodness was still there, and so she was not lost. When the last confrontation came, she was not beaten down by a greater force. Sailor Moon refused to raise a hand against her at all. She reached past the armour to the saviour still sealed beneath it and offered Galaxia the one thing Chaos had spent an age teaching her to forget. In that moment Galaxia’s overwhelming power turned back toward the good it had once served, and it was not put out.
Once she was freed, she did the second great thing of her long life, and again she did it alone. She gathered the Chaos she had carried for so long and took it home to the Galaxy Cauldron, where every star seed is born and to which every one returns, so that even evil could be given back to the source and reborn clean. She had been the saviour and then the destroyer, and in the end she chose to be the saviour once more. She was at peace at last.
how a fixed star shines through
The old astrologers gave the brightest fixed stars the worst reputations, and it was not superstition. A star of that magnitude hands a life more than it’s built to carry. Eminence and ruin arrive in the same contact, and the gifts come with a price nobody agreed to. The harm comes from carrying that brilliance alone. Galaxia was the strongest guardian there was, and she ended the Sailor Wars by sealing Chaos inside her own body. It was an act of protection, and it was the most catastrophic decision anyone in this story makes. In the end she becomes what she holds.
To keep the good in her out of Chaos’s reach, she casts her own light away, so the thing she spends the war hunting across the galaxy is the one she threw out herself. Her ending is not a defeat. Sailor Moon declines to fight her at all, the discarded light reaches her, and Galaxia gathers up the Chaos she has carried alone all this time and gives it back to the Cauldron to be born clean.
